APRIL 8TH:
On April 8th, early in the morning, a Peddy Paper was held where whoever managed to complete the test received a prize. This activity consisted of completing challenges where the objective was to travel a route and answer certain questions.

At 5pm the activity “Ark of History: The mystical corners of the Monastery” was scheduled. After this activity, visitors had the opportunity to taste the best wines from the Convent’s Winery at 5:30pm.


APRIL 9TH:
On April 9th, guests of the Convento do Espinheiro attended the Easter Mass at the Church of N. Sra. do Espinheiro at 9 am. This was a unique opportunity to appreciate the beauty and history of the church.

Every year is the same. You find the perfect place to spend your holidays, but you can't take your best friend. Find the perfect place for a pet-friendly holiday at Convento do Espinheiro.

At Convento do Espinheiro we believe that four-legged friends are also family. With this in mind, we make our facilities available to welcome your pets. We want to provide the best possible experience for children, adults and pets.

PET FRIENDLY ROOMS
This is only available for Design rooms on the ground floor, as there are some travel restrictions. Your pets are like family to us and as such we want them to have the greatest freedom. This is only available on floors where there is no need to travel through public areas.

Ideally, your pet should not be left alone in the room. However, if this happens, we would appreciate it if you could put a sign on the door so that your pet is not disturbed. This period of time cannot exceed one hour.

PET SITTING
When you go to the spa, indoor pool or restaurant, you can use our Pet Sitting service. This way, you will have a relaxing experience knowing that even though you can't be with your pet, they will be in good hands.

However, if you choose to eat on the terraces, you can enjoy the meal with all the members of the family.

In addition, we provide a food and water bowl so that your pet feels at home.

SAFE TRAVEL
Pets must be transported around all areas of the hotel on a leash or in a transport box.

If you want to enjoy our outdoor pool, you can bring your pet with you. This area has a clearly marked Pet Friendly area. However, you can keep your pet on a leash for greater safety.

The best news for your pet is in the gardens. There is a fenced area called the Dog Park that allows you to let your pet run free. This gives you the chance to run and play with your four-legged best friend.

CATS AND DOGS
Dogs and cats up to 40 kg are accepted in our facilities. We can only guarantee one pet per room to maintain the harmony of our services.

For the safety of our employees and guests, breeds considered dangerous are not accepted.

LEGALITIES AND TARIFFS
Legally, the animal's guardians must accept these rules. They must also agree to the compensation regulations defined by the hotel.

Those responsible for the animals must also comply with international and Portuguese law.

As for the price per night, you will only have to pay a supplement which does not include the animal's food.

A gathering with wines from producers in our Alentejo – The gathering will take place on October 16th. Here you will be able to taste several precious nectars. Our sommelier will coordinate the wine tasting with incredible wines that will fill our souls.

New menu, new flavors – On October 22nd, our Divinus restaurant will have new flavors, new aromas, warmer and more intense because it is Autumn. Enjoy the new collection of flavors and the best seasonal ingredients, handpicked by the Chef.

AN UNFORGETTABLE HOT AIR BALLOON TRIP...IN THE WIND'S CHARM!

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT TAKING A HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE OVER THE ALENTEJO? THIS COULD BE THE FIRST OF MANY!


If this isn’t your first time, the good news is that every hot air balloon ride is different. The wind is the determining factor for both the balloon’s route and landing location, making each trip a unique experience.

If you have any doubts or fears, let's imagine this trip together:

Preparation for the flight begins with the wicker basket, where you will be taken to experience this experience. Accompanied by your loved ones, the balloon begins to grow just above your head. We believe you will feel a sensation of levitation, accompanied by a small thrill from the adrenaline. The height reached can even reach 1500 feet.

Before you know it… you’re floating, at the mercy of the wind with incredible 360º views.

We imagine ourselves up high in the sky, in an open basket, but the truth is that the temperature is always mild and very pleasant due to the heat produced by the gas cylinders. Therefore, we recommend wearing sportswear, a cap and sturdy shoes, and avoid nylon or overly warm clothing. In short, in the summer, it is best to travel in a short-sleeved shirt.

GIN SHARISH – “THERE ARE DRINKS THAT HAVE HISTORY. AND THAT DESERVE TO BE KNOWN.”


During the event we will serve the admirable Sharish Gin produced in the Alentejo region.

Sharish was inspired by the village of Monsaraz. “Mont Sharish means a mountain built in a thicket of rockroses, which later gave rise to Monsaraz”, explains António Cuco.

The brand image of this Gin comes from António's childhood memories, when his great-grandmother would give him the Bravo de Esmolfe apple to eat. Thus the Bravo de Esmolfe apple, from Penalva do Castelo, in Beira Alta, became the brand's reference.

Sharish Gin has gone from being a homemade drink to a premium gin of recognized quality. Even so, its original recipe remains unchanged, using mostly fresh and local products (orange, lemon, lemon verbena, lemongrass, among others). One of its secrets lies in the way infusion and distillation are carried out. The use of traditional Portuguese stills slows down the distillation process, thus contributing to the quality of the product.

FOR THE LITTLE ONES, A LITTLE FUN, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
In July and August, we prepared a fun and educational paper game for children of all ages. This is a fun way for the little ones to learn about the history of the Convent of Espinheiro and Portugal, as a family.

WHY SHOULD YOUNG CHILDREN PARTICIPATE IN PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES?
Playful activities are, in simple terms, games that are part of early childhood education. These are essential for a child's development and go far beyond helping them understand school subjects. They are also a way to improve a child's communication skills.

DISCOVER THE CONVENT AND THE HISTORY OF ÉVORA:
The hotel is located in Évora, a city of unquestionable beauty. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers a wide range of historical and cultural attractions, as well as medieval streets and alleys, surrounded by the Roman wall.

In short, you can enjoy an authentic open-air museum during a walk or a pleasant carriage ride.

HOW DOES A PEDDY-PAPER WORK FOR THE LITTLE ONES?
Requirements:

Firstly, at the Convent, participants need to have access to books and internet access for research. They also need access to all the places where they are doing the Peddy-Paper. Secondly, the groups are given pens, pencils and/or markers. This can be done as a family, with just two children, or at a small party. They are always divided into small groups and mixed by age.

How is the evaluation done at the end?

The groups that answer all the questions the quickest will be ranked higher. The adults who will evaluate the results can adapt the rules of the game, whenever possible before the game starts.

The level of demand in the assessment must take into account the age of the participants.

SOITO ALFROCHEIRO RESERVE DÃO 2017

The flavour promises long persistence and complexity. With a deep and elegant aroma of red fruits, a balance between notes of plum, blueberry and cherry. Highlights include soft expressions of vanilla, spices and dried fruits.

SOITO ROSÉ 2019

A wine made from the Tinta-Roriz, Touriga-Nacional and Alfrocheiro grape varieties, produced and vinified at Quinta do Soito. It reflects the grandeur of the Quinta’s terroir and the Dão region. Pink in colour, it is a fresh wine, with volume and smoothness. With a persistent finish, it has a raspberry aroma and citrus nuances.

SOITO ENCRUZADO RESERVE

Classical vinification and partial aging in French oak barrels with controlled fermentation. This wine was aged in French oak barrels with batonnage for 6 months. This enhanced its stability, revealing itself at the time of tasting. With a fresh flavor, it is noticeable stone fruit, peach and apricot. Its floral aroma contains hints of plum and Pink Lady apple. Its exquisite structure, minerality and long, complex finish satisfy the desires of Dão wine lovers.

Alentejo Cooking Class

Thus, the Alentejo cooking class, with Chef Jorge Peças, will take place on January 25th at 4 pm, at the famous Tasca do Chefe, which has a rustic decor.

Because participants will be provided with fresh ingredients, the highlight will be the aromatic herbs grown in the convent's vegetable garden! Those who participate will embark on a journey of flavors. Old home-made recipes will be prepared under the guidance of the Chef!

Alentejo Bread Workshop

The Alentejo Bread workshop will be on January 26th at 10:30 am, at the Olive Restaurant.

Alentejo bread has a long history. For many centuries, the Jerónimo monks who lived in the Convent of Espinheiro prepared their own bread. This bread had unique characteristics that made traditional Alentejo bread so well-known and revered.

So, relive the old days with our Chef. Learn the ancient techniques of the art of kneading rustic wheat flour with the yeast from the previous baking. Because each customer can literally get their hands dirty. Just like our Monks did, participants will transform the fine powder of white flour into a fluffy and tasty dough. A unique experience!

As Christmas approaches, you may start to feel anxious just thinking about all the things you’ll have to do, cook and prepare. On December 8th, at the Olive restaurant, our Chef will share with guests his ancestral knowledge of the art of kneading rustic wheat flour with the yeast from the previous baking process. In this Alentejo bread workshop, each guest literally gets their hands dirty and, just like our Monks did, transforms the fine powder of white flour into a soft, delicious dough.

For those who prefer something sweeter, chef Carla Parreira will be giving a Bolo-Rei workshop at the Olive restaurant, where you can learn how to make your own typically Portuguese cake, a must-have for Christmas Eve. So, we haven't forgotten about the little ones, and on December 22nd there will be a Christmas biscuit workshop that is absolutely unmissable!

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we highlight our delicious seasonal gastronomic delicacies, which we prepare as tradition dictates.

On Christmas Eve, you can enjoy Mass at the Church of Santa Maria do Espinheiro, a glass of Porto de Honra and a Christmas Eve dinner with drinks included at the Divinus Restaurant. On Christmas Day, enjoy a fabulous Christmas lunch, specially prepared, at the Divinus Restaurant.

Publituris is a Portuguese magazine that was launched in 1968 and is dedicated to the hotel and tourism market.

In the tourism sector, with the aim of distinguishing the best of the best, 16 years ago Publituris launched a competition called Publituris PortugalTravel Awards , the well-known Oscars of Tourism. This competition is supported by Cascais City Council.

This year, the event takes place on September 17th in Cascais, at the Manuel Possolo Hippodrome.

The History of Publituris PortugalTravel Awards

It all started in 1970, when Nuno Rocha (founder of the Publituris newspaper ) and Belmiro Santos jointly organized a competition at the old restaurant “Cota d'Armas”, located in Alfama, to distinguish the best hotels in tourism in Portugal. Unexpectedly, the success of this initiative was that even the then Minister of Information and Tourism of the Estado Novo, César Moreira Baptista and Pedro Pinto were present.

For unknown reasons, this event was left behind. It was only in 2004 that it was held again under the name Publituris Awards. Since then, this event has not lost its conviction and has been growing year after year.

The Alentejo chef arrived at the five-star hotel restaurant in 2006 and, from now on, will be responsible for creating the menus with proposals that are true gastronomic works of art.

The kitchen at the Divinus restaurant, in the Convento do Espinheiro, has new management. It will be run by Chef Jorge Peças.

Born in Alentejo, he is known for creating unique gastronomic experiences and using the best local produce. Chef Jorge Peças has now taken on the role of Executive Chef at Restaurante Divinus, in Convento do Espinheiro.
