Reducing our ecological footprint and sustainability should be a concern for everyone.

Convento do Espinheiro Historic Hotel & Spa is certified by BIOSPHERE, where we have implemented several policies that promote good environmental practices, which demonstrate respect and responsibility on this issue, particularly in the areas of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and social responsibility.

Main environmental sustainability practices:

• Responsible for separating waste and sending it to the appropriate locations;
• Organic herb garden and fruit trees for use in the Resort’s restaurants and bars;
• Provides several waste collection points with separation, for use by guests and associates;
• Allows the guest to choose whether they want to replace sheets and towels;
• Purchases paper from companies with environmental policies;
• Reduce the use of various plastic products, including straws, plates and cutlery, and water bottles;
• Charging points for electric vehicles;
• Gardens exclusively watered with water from boreholes;
• Garden waste is sent for composting;
• All toilet flushes do not exceed 6 L;
• Tap flow rates are controlled by limiters;
• Use of solar panels to heat the water in the indoor pool;
• Mini bar is empty and switched off, products on request.

Key energy efficiency practices:

• Air conditioning system that reuses the outside temperature to air condition rooms and common areas;
• Tools for monthly monitoring of CO² emissions, with the aim of reducing these values;
• Implementation of renewable energy production systems (self-consumption);
• Air conditioning system with dynamic temperature set points depending on the time of year;
• Lighting with LED technology;
• Public lighting controlled by sensors or GTC;
• Fresh air treatment unit equipment equipped with heat recovery.

Main social responsibility practices:

• Food, clothing and equipment donation programs;
• Solidarity movement that celebrates the “Earth Hour” event;
• Provision of information on digital platforms about good sustainability practices;
• There are several digital platforms available with all the necessary information so you can get to know the resort in order to reduce the need for printed documents.
