Wine Tasting
05-07-2019Wine tasting, what is it?
Surprisingly, it may seem like a very questionable thought, but in reality there are many people who do not know what to do during a wine tasting. The expected behavior is exactly that: taste, savor and essentially enjoy the moment.
It is also expected that the consumer will give a positive or negative evaluation of what they have experienced.
The sensations:
First of all, you should know that sensations are the main element of a wine tasting. During an event like this, the consumer is expected to experience three sensations: smell, sight and taste. None of them should be ranked in a hierarchy; they should be analyzed together, as a whole.
The meaning of vision in a wine tasting:
Explaining the above in more detail, the sense of sight (which is often overlooked by consumers) gives us very important information. The tone of the wine indicates its level of maturity and tells us broadly how old it is.
Curiosity:
As for white wines, when they start their life cycle they have a yellowish color (tending towards white). Over time, they will change to a brighter yellow color. It is not suitable for all types of white wines, as it depends on the type of grape used.
In turn, in red wine, we can see that when they are younger they have a more purple hue and that as the years go by, this becomes a more reddish tone.
Characteristics of wine that this sense is capable of detecting
Clarity
It is very important because it is capable of detecting particles, i.e., analyzing their clarity . If these residues are present, it may mean that the wine is not performing at its best. However, it is important to note that there are wines that should not be given this characteristic as much importance. For example, Port wine and Bordeaux wines.
Transparency
It is essential to observe its transparency , this way we can tell whether the wine is cloudy or not. If it is cloudy, there is a certain probability that it is not in its best condition.
Viscosity
One of the characteristics that should be of great importance is viscosity , that is, you should gently shake the glass. Look carefully at the sides of your glass. If it flows slowly, it means that the alcohol content is high; if the opposite happens, it means that the alcohol content is lower.
Shine
Finally, we can check for the existence of brightness , since it is a result of the three functions mentioned above.
However, be aware that great wines have these three characteristics.
In the next articles, we will continue to talk about the sensations in a wine tasting. Thus, we will give way to taste and smell.
