Church of Our Lady of Espinheiro
Located only 4 km from Évora the classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The original building from the 15th century is considered National Heritage and its origins goes back to as story tells, Our Lady appeared on top of a common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna – in Portuguese Espinheiro) around the year of 1400.
In 1412 it was built an oratory in honor of Our Lady and finally in 1458, during King D, Afonso V (January 15, 1432/August 28, 1481 – co-name The African) kingdom and due to growing importance of the place as a pilgrimage site, it was founded the Church and later on the Convent.

Convent of Our Lady of Espinheiro
The Convent of Our Lady of Espinheiro was a center of culture as painting school with Friar Carlos. During Estado Novo (or Second Republic) it was also a cultural center for all the children in primary school in the region.
As a religious place, in this Church many wedding and Christenings took place along with the Pilgrimage on Thursday of Ascension with the fest of Our Lady of Espinheiro.
