was voted the best wine region to visit in the world!
USA Today, one of the best-selling newspapers in the US, has held an online survey to elect the world’s best wine region to visit. Among the 20 nominated regions, the Alentejo took a firm first place, setting it far from the second most voted region.
The decision of the readers of one of the most prestigious newspapers in North America is even more important considering the fact that the Alentejo stood out from consecrated regions such as Champagne, in France, La Rioja, in Spain, or Napa Valley, in California, amongst a list of 20.
Also, in the last month of June 2014, The Gentleman’s Journal voted the Alentejo as one of the 10 best places in the world for wine tasting, and more recently, The Guardian considered the beaches of the Alentejo Coast as the best in Europe.
In 2013, more than 250 international journalists visited the region, invited by ARPTA – the Alentejo´s regional agency for touristic promotion. These press trips produced hundreds of articles in renowned media (press & TV) around the world.
Vítor Silva, president of the region’s touristic promotion agency (ARPTA), this distinction by USA Today is “the result not only of the efforts of private agents – wine producers, wine tourism and hospitality agents – but also of ARPTA, responsible for international promotion, of the Alentejo Region’s Wine Commission (CVRA) and of the region’s tourism board (ERT Alentejo), who have done their utmost to promote the excellence of the region’s products and tourism.” VIEW THE COMPLETE ARTICLE>
